Abstinence from smoking and expired-air carbon monoxide levels: lactose intolerance as a possible source of error.
We investigated a possible source of contamination of expired-air carbon monoxide (CO) readings on CO monitors from raised expired-air hydrogen (H2) levels, namely lactose intolerance, the norm in certain ethnic groups. A significant correlation between expired-air CO and H2 readings was observed in four non-smoking lactose maldigesters.
متن کاملPreparation of Carbon Molecular Sieves from Pistachio Shell and Walnut Shell for Kinetic Separation of Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, and Methane
In this study, two Carbon Molecular Sieves using Pistachio shell (CMS P) and Walnut shell (CMS W) were prepared by a chemical vapor deposition method and used for pressure swing adsorption and separation of CO/H2 and CO/CH4. Adsorption isotherms of gases obtained for both CMS’s. The Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model was used for comparing pore volum...
متن کاملCarbon-14 in methane sources and in atmospheric methane: the contribution from fossil carbon.
Measurements of carbon-14 in small samples of methane from major biogenic sources, from biomass burning, and in "clean air" samples from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres reveal that methane from ruminants contains contemporary carbon, whereas that from wetlands, pat bogs, rice fields, and tundra is somewhat, depleted in carbon-14. Atmospheric (14)GH(4) seems to have increased from 198...
متن کاملThe ebullition of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, carbon dioxide and total gaseous mercury from the Cornwall Area of Concern.
This paper reports the first ebullitive fluxes of hydrogen (H2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2) and total gaseous mercury (TGM) from the Cornwall Area of Concern (CAC). Although sediments were contaminated with mercury, bubbling was a negligible source of mercury for the global atmosphere. Indeed, the average emission of TGM through ebullition was 0.04 pg m(-2) h(-1)....
متن کاملMartian dust storms as a possible sink of atmospheric methane
[1] Recent laboratory tests, analog studies and numerical simulations all suggest that Martian dust devils and larger dusty convective storms generate and maintain large-scale electric fields. Such expected E-fields will have the capability to create significant electron drift motion in the collisional gas and to form an extended high energy (u kT) electron tail in the distribution. We demonstr...
